Job Summary:

Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Technician I to join our team. As an MH Tech 1, you will play a vital role in supporting patients through their treatment experience, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Support: Orient new patients to the treatment program, its requirements, intent, and routine. Complete necessary assessments within 24 hours of admission.
  • Special Needs: Determine whether new patients have any special needs, communicate those needs to the treatment team, and assist patients in fulfilling those needs.
  • Milieu Monitoring: Monitor all patients through the treatment experience, keeping patients in line of sight in the milieu and checking on patients in bedrooms or other areas on a regular basis.
  • Positive Role Model: Contribute to the well-being of all patients by serving as a positive role model, demonstrating a professional and caring manner toward coworkers, patients, and guests. Treat all patients, guests, and coworkers respectfully and courteously.
  • Treatment Plan Support: Facilitate treatment plans set forth by therapists by providing day-to-day support to patients and helping patients engage in positive coping skills. Direct patients in a clear, concise, and informative manner.
  • Structure and Organization: Understand the importance of structure by following house rules and group schedules each shift.
  • Therapeutic Groups: Run and engage patients in therapeutic groups such as coping skills, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, life skills, etc., for the expected length of time identified in the program schedule. Assist in providing group ideas.
  • Documentation: Document any behaviors that occur in the milieu in a thorough and appropriate manner. Maintain the confidential nature of all patient and program-related activities.
  • Communication: Answer the phone promptly and politely. Transfer any inquiries they are unable to assist with to the therapist, milieu manager, or program director.
  • Environment Maintenance: Maintain a clean environment by completing cleaning required on the shift worked and documenting.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: Bachelor's degree or one year of experience working with mental health or with adolescents
  • Certifications: Must possess a current driver's license in good standing, CPI, and CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days of employment with Discovery
