Job Summary:

The GeorgiaGov Alternate Public Defender Southeast Office is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Assistant Public Defender III to join our team. As a key member of our office, you will provide exceptional representation and advocacy to indigent clients in Effingham, Bulloch, Jenkins, Screven, Bryan, Liberty, Tattnall, Evans, Long, and McIntosh counties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cases for trial, zealously advocate, and defend clients in felony cases in Superior Court
  • Seek and negotiate plea depositions, and enter pleas in felony cases
  • Perform as a Senior Staff Attorney in cases from pretrial to conclusion
  • Provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university
  • License to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure within one year of hiring
  • Two years of relevant legal experience or two years of experience at the lower-level Attorney 2

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous trial experience in major felony cases
  • Current membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
