POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nursing Unit Supervisor (RN) will oversee the daily operations of nursing aides and staff, while also delivering direct patient care. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our facility meets the highest standards of care.
The Nursing Unit Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organization, and execution of educational programs for staff, adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as our established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To excel in this role, the individual must competently perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Oversee the daily activities of nursing aides and nursing personnel.
- Provide direct nursing care to residents.
- Supervise the feeding and care of patients as needed.
- Alert physicians when a patient's condition necessitates attention.
- Carry out administrative responsibilities, including documentation of notes and reports.
- Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with established protocols.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patients' conditions, documenting observations and interventions.
- Order and administer medications as prescribed by physicians, ensuring proper documentation.
- Conduct and monitor prescribed treatments, including wound care and laboratory work.
- Perform emergency procedures, such as CPR, and notify appropriate parties in the event of a patient’s death.
- Identify and report accidents and incidents promptly.
- Update care plans as necessary during each shift.
- Participate in regulatory surveys conducted by authorized agencies.
- Address and report complaints and grievances from patients, families, and staff.
- Ensure the facility is free from health and safety hazards.
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital or long-term care facility.
Licensing/Certification/Education Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Registered Nursing (RN) Degree and possess a current Registered Nursing (RN) License in the state of Tennessee.
Other Requirements:
This position may require occasional overtime and weekend work, with a need for flexibility in scheduling.
Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises nursing support staff.
