Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a residential waste collection vehicle, including side-load and rear-load trucks, along with ancillary equipment to gather solid waste and recyclables on assigned routes.
  • Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the designated areas of the collection vehicle.
  • Utilize truck equipment to compact waste effectively.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring safety and compliance with all operational protocols.
  • Report any mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Maintain the quality of service as per management standards.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies during operations.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and well-maintained.
  • Identify and manage prohibited waste items appropriately.
  • Supervise assigned helpers as necessary.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations related to waste management.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Document all services performed accurately.
  • Assist in improving routing efficiencies in collaboration with supervisors.
  • Be available for overtime as needed.
  • Participate in safety and operational meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • At least one year of commercial driving experience or completion of a CDL training program.
  • Ability to meet safety-sensitive function criteria as per company standards.
  • Proven ability to operate the vehicle and equipment safely.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of vehicle components and basic maintenance requirements.
  • Skill in maneuvering vehicles in tight spaces using mirrors.
  • Ability to identify unacceptable waste materials.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and team members.
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending maps and documents.
  • Capacity to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Willingness to adapt to changes and pursue continuous improvement.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds using proper techniques.
  • Coordination to operate multiple limbs effectively.
  • Commitment to following all safety policies and procedures.

  • Visual acuity for safe vehicle operation in various conditions.
  • Capability to work in loud environments and varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions:
