San Francisco, California, United States Tbwa ChiatDay Inc Full time

Astranis is a pioneering space technology company dedicated to bridging the global digital divide. Our mission is to connect the four billion people worldwide who lack internet access by developing next-generation, cost-effective spacecraft.

As a team, we've achieved remarkable milestones, including launching two satellites into orbit, securing ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, and raising over $500 million from top global investors. We've also built a diverse and talented team of over 300 engineers.

Our innovative approach involves designing smaller, more efficient satellites that operate from geostationary orbit (GEO). Each satellite weighs only 400 kg and features a proprietary software-defined radio payload, enabling us to connect over two million people. We're excited about our upcoming projects in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and other countries.

Astranis offers a rewarding work environment where you'll have opportunities to learn, grow, and make a significant impact, regardless of your career stage. With substantial funding and a collaborative team, you'll be empowered to drive innovation and progress.

Job Description

We're seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Avionics team as an Avionics Systems Architect. In this role, you will lead designs for sub-systems that form the backbone of our satellites' internal communication, power distribution, sensor aggregation, and flight computer systems. You'll be responsible for architecting avionics systems, driving design discussions, and collaborating with engineers across the organization to develop creative solutions.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect and design space- and radiation-tolerant electronics that support satellite operations.
  • Drive electronics design from concept development through qualification, ensuring high reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Work closely with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to ensure manufacturability, on-time delivery, and quality assurance.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, communicating regularly with stakeholders.
  • Help build optimal processes for hardware development and collaboration within the company.
  • Assist in recruiting and hiring additional team members to support our rapid growth.

This is a challenging opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to lead the development of critical avionics systems, shape the future of space technology, and contribute to the success of our mission.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • B.S. or higher in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a similar technical degree.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in fast-paced product design cycles.
  • 8+ years of board-level experience designing hardware from concept through production.
  • A passion for hardware development, including working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on design.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and test hardware from scratch.
  • Strong analog/mixed-signal circuit design skills.
  • Additional desirable qualifications include experience with FPGAs, Microcontrollers, signal conditioning, sensors, electro-mechanical actuators, power switches, embedded computers, or communication schemes (RS-485, SPI, Ethernet, I2C).
What We Offer

Astranis provides a competitive compensation package that includes equity and robust benefits. Our total rewards package includes:

  • Base pay: $140,000 - $200,000 USD per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Equity in the form of incentive stock options.
  • High-quality company-subsidized healthcare.
  • Disability and life insurance benefits.
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • 401(K) retirement plan.
  • Free on-site catered meals.

Astranis values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage all qualified individuals to apply. As a U.S.-based company, we require U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency, or Refugee/Asylee Status for all applicants. Our mission is to connect the world and everyone in it, regardless of gender, race, creed, or any other distinction.
