Anesthesia Support Technician

Position Overview
The Anesthesia Support Technician plays a crucial role in assisting anesthesia providers by acquiring, preparing, and utilizing essential equipment, supplies, and medications during anesthesia administration.
This role may involve assisting with specialized procedures and providing support for both routine and complex surgical cases. The technician will work closely with anesthesia providers and the perioperative team, functioning under the supervision of licensed anesthesia professionals during patient care.
Job Relationships
Reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the facility.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct basic troubleshooting for monitors and equipment, promptly reporting any defective or malfunctioning devices.
2. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and disinfection of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and work areas.
3. Assist in the requisition, storage, and issuance of supplies, ensuring that outdated items are discarded appropriately.
4. Document and uphold preventative maintenance and quality records, ensuring all equipment remains operational at all times.
5. Foster effective working relationships with anesthesia department staff and collaborate with other departments.
Patient Care
Prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems throughout the pre, intra, and post-anesthesia phases, considering age-specific needs of various patient groups.
Efficiency and Compliance
Maintain operational efficiency by establishing priorities and organization.
Ensure patient confidentiality is upheld at all times.
Adhere to incident reporting policies and procedures as outlined by the organization.
Comply with all training and safety standards as required.
Qualifications
Completion of a two-year approved program by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) is preferred but not mandatory.
RMA/CMA certification or two years of experience in an Anesthesia Technician or similar role is required.
Licenses and Certifications
Current CPR certification in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures relevant to the specialized area is preferred.
Understanding of methods and techniques for decontamination, storage, preparation, and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment is advantageous.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, maintaining composure under stress and exercising good judgment.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to push, pull, stoop, bend, and lift. The work environment is clinical and may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and potentially hazardous materials. Occasional heavy lifting may be necessary.
