This role provides essential support to the National Trails office of the National Park Service, with the flexibility of remote work arrangements.
The National Park Service Experienced Services Program is a collaborative initiative designed to address workforce challenges within government sectors. This program connects seasoned professionals (aged 55 and above) with the NPS to deliver scientific, technical, and administrative assistance.
Positions within the NPS ESP are intended for temporary, project-based contributions, currently funded for an estimated duration of 52 weeks.
Note that a background security investigation may be necessary prior to commencement. Only roles exceeding 30 hours per week qualify for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave.
Participants in the program, referred to as “Enrollees,” are not classified as employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions oversees the administrative components of the program, while Enrollees operate under the guidance of NPS staff to support the agency's objectives. NPS ESP Enrollees gain the opportunity to maintain and enhance their technical skills, access new training, engage in meaningful project-based roles, and utilize their expertise to contribute positively to the environment and the economy.
Qualifications:• A minimum of 20 years of experience in NPS office administration, with recent experience within the last three years, or a BA/BS Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- Proven experience in a Federal office setting; ability to adapt to the unique operational dynamics of an NPS office.
- Proficiency in Windows, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Familiarity with FBMS, AFS, Quicktime, and FPPS.
The Enrollee will assist in administrative functions that support the National Trails Office's mission to provide technical and financial assistance to various partners, including government entities, tribal nations, nonprofits, universities, and private organizations.
- Provide guidance on Federal budgeting and ensure accurate management of office finances, including regular updates on fund status.
25% - Advise on office administration and lead a small administrative team.
25% - Offer general coaching as required, and organize and facilitate weekly discussions in a virtual environment.
25% - Advise on customer service practices, emphasizing active listening, collaboration, and effective communication.
