Position Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome patients and provide clear instructions regarding procedures.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and assist with administrative tasks.
  • Verify patient orders to ensure accuracy in diagnosis, scheduled exams, and necessary authorizations.
  • Conduct MRI safety screenings for patients prior to procedures, utilizing appropriate resources for safety protocols.
  • Execute specialized tasks related to the operation of MRI equipment, ensuring adherence to safety procedures. Position patients accurately for scans and select appropriate imaging protocols.
  • Prepare and administer oral and intravenous contrast media as required.
  • Maintain equipment functionality, perform routine quality assurance checks, and report any malfunctions to supervisory staff.
  • Conduct exams in accordance with established protocols and patient safety standards.
  • Assess MRI scans for technical quality and ensure proper documentation and labeling.
  • Provide training and orientation to new MRI technologists and educate student technologists.
  • Attend to the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families during MRI procedures.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the necessary competencies relevant to this position.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an AMA accredited radiologic technology program.

Experience: A minimum of two years in radiologic imaging modalities, with at least one year in magnetic resonance imaging preferred. Familiarity with 3T and 1.5 Tesla imaging is advantageous.

Certifications: Must hold a valid license in the State of Florida and ARRT certification in Radiography (RT(R)) or Nuclear Medicine (RT(N)). Current ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) is preferred or must be obtained within the first year of employment. BLS Certification is also required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in MRI procedures and protocols.
  • Understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of MRI safety and protection standards for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • IV placement and management proficiency.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems for processing and submitting images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Emergency response knowledge, including AED function and emergency equipment location.

Abilities:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside the department.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to explain procedures in a clear and simple manner to patients.
  • Efficient multitasking abilities.
