Job Summary

This is a 20-24 hour/week position, which requires an on-site presence in addition to attendance at regular faculty meetings, monthly board meetings, and participation in school-wide special events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Provide guidance and support, regular observation and feedback to teachers;
    • Participate in goal-setting;
    • Be the main point-person on personnel issues;
    • Make recommendations for renewal of staff contracts; and participate in hiring of new staff.
  • Communication
    • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and effective learning climate consistent with the philosophy of the Neighborhood Schoolhouse;
    • Facilitate effective communication between staff, parents, and the board of directors, including written communications and meeting with parents individually as necessary;
    • Approve all significant outside communication.
  • Administration
    • With the Program Director, hold the standards for and work with individual students on behavior management and coordinate behavior management plans;
    • Oversee all special-education issues;
    • With the Program Director, oversee enrollment and admissions including organizing open house informational meetings, meeting with prospective parents, and making enrollment decisions, with staff input when necessary;
    • Collaborate with the Board generating a yearly budget and serve on the finance committee;
    • With the Program Director maintain records-keeping systems on students, staff, and administrative business, including technical backup standards;
    • Understand local, state, and federal regulations and ensure that NSH is in compliance;
    • Be familiar with the condition of the building and grounds and school equipment and work with the board to ensure its safety and proper functioning.
    Requirements
    • A Masters Degree in Education or similar level of education preferred;
    • Possession of or ability to obtain a Vermont AOE license in Early Childhood Education;
    • Possession of or ability to obtain a Northern Lights Step One Program Director Credential;
    • Must have experience in teaching as well as program administration and possess an educational philosophy consistent with that of the Neighborhood Schoolhouse;
    • Experience implementing emergent curriculum and outdoor education;
    • Leadership and supervisory skills;
    • Excellent communication skills;
    • Personable and approachable;
    • Experience with curriculum development across a wide range of ages preferred.
