Job Description

Job Title: Paralegal - Community Revitalization Project

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. The successful candidate will provide critical support to our attorneys in the Community Revitalization Project, focusing on affordable housing, environmental justice, and community development.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist attorneys in representing clients and community groups in civil matters, including affordable housing, environmental justice, and community development.
  2. Conduct intake, screen clients, and create electronic and paper client files.
  3. Investigate and develop cases, including conducting necessary interviews.
  4. Draft pleadings, orders, discovery, letters, memos, and other written materials.
  5. File legal papers and pleadings through e-filing, interact with court staff, and opposing parties.
  6. Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized records and files.
  7. Translate for clients who speak a different language than their advocate.
  8. Seek supervision and guidance from supervising attorneys on cases and projects assigned.
  9. Participate in in-house training programs and staff meetings.
  10. Report caseload statistics and other information regarding activities and advocacy to the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree and paralegal certification is preferred.
  • Two (2) years prior experience working as a paralegal preferred.
  • Prior experience working with the low-income community and/or community organizing preferred.
  • Fluent in Spanish - both verbal and written is preferred, but not required.
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented, efficient, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact professionally and courteously with individuals at all levels.
  • Excellent computer skills with use of Microsoft products preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment while maintaining client confidentiality.
