About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at Ochsner Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, maintaining a safe and sterile environment, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working order and meet the highest standards of sterility.
  • Assist surgeons and other medical staff during surgical procedures, providing support and maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment.
  • Monitor and maintain patient records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available for medical staff.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with the latest surgical techniques and technologies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in Surgical Technology preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent required; graduate from accepted course in Surgical Technology preferred.

Work Experience

None required.

Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required; certification in Surgical Technology preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Knowledge in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must be able to move and lift objects weighing up to 60 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices (e.g., carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized.

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.

The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
