Position Title: Equine Program Assistant

REPORTS TO: Equine & Property Manager

DIVISION: Strategic Initiatives

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time/Seasonal

POSITION SUMMARY

The Equine Program Assistant plays a vital role in the implementation and support of equine-related programs. This position involves ensuring the safety and well-being of participants while delivering engaging equine sessions and workshops.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide daily care for equine animals, including feeding, administering approved medications, maintaining barn cleanliness, and grooming.
  • Oversee the behavioral and physical upkeep of the equine herd under the guidance of the department manager.
  • Facilitate entry-level equine sessions, workshops, and training, adhering to current certification limits.
  • Maintain required certifications and assist in the upkeep of facilities.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and document findings for barn and riding equipment.
  • Participate in scheduled departmental meetings and adhere to risk management policies.
  • Promote equine opportunities within local communities and maintain positive relationships with participants, parents, and volunteers.

CULTURAL EXPECTATIONS

We expect professionalism, timeliness, and a commitment to organizational citizenship. This includes respecting the environment, engaging in innovative thinking, and contributing positively to the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in horsemanship.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
  • Teaching or coaching experience.
  • Experience in a successful equine program.
