Position Overview:
  • This role will support the Infectious Disease Clinical Research Program (IDCRP). The Clinical Research Specialist II will primarily assist with the HIV Natural History Study.
  • This study is a longitudinal epidemiological, observational, open cohort investigation collecting both retrospective and prospective data from the U.S. military active duty and Department of Defense (DoD) health care beneficiary HIV-infected population.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate new patient records and assess patient eligibility for participation in research protocols. Conduct patient interviews and gather relevant data for recruitment, ensuring informed consent is obtained. Provide patients with comprehensive information about the research protocols and their involvement.
  • Systematically collect, organize, catalog, and maintain current data files. Prepare weekly/monthly status reports on all patients.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, acting as a resource for patient inquiries.
  • Document and resolve data queries in case report forms (both hardcopy and electronic) and prepare necessary documentation under the guidance of project leaders.
  • Comply with legal, professional, and ethical standards regarding confidentiality and privacy. Ensure adherence to protocol requirements within Good Clinical Practices.
  • Coordinate patient appointments and visits. Assist in monitoring audits/visits for protocols and travel to support protocols at various sites as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with federal and local regulations and policies related to research involving human subjects.
  • Strong interpersonal and computer skills.
  • Effective communication abilities and capacity to collaborate with individuals at all levels.
  • Experience in recruiting, consenting, and enrolling study participants.
  • Phlebotomy experience is preferred.

Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Ability to lift materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Capacity to stand or sit at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles, machinery, and/or power tools.

Work Environment:
  • This position is primarily conducted in a clinical setting.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required.

Note: Some positions may require full vaccination against COVID-19, with proof of vaccination potentially necessary. Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which may include verification of professional references, previous employment, education, credentials, and a criminal background check. Any qualifications considered as equivalents to stated minimums require prior approval from the Chief Human Resources Officer.
