Position Summary:

This role is crucial for the Combination Product Development (CPD) team, which provides design and development expertise for drug delivery systems.

The Human Factors (HF) division within CPD oversees the user interface design process for drug delivery devices and conducts usability evaluations necessary for the successful submission of Combination Products.

With the growing number of pharmaceuticals requiring delivery devices and the recent inclusion of medical devices in our portfolio, there is an increasing demand for Human Factors expertise.

We seek a qualified individual with academic and professional experience in human factors or usability engineering to support our product development initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

This position will assist the CPD HF team in managing projects aimed at designing, testing, and validating combination products and medical devices.

The selected candidate will collaborate with Allergan's HF, Engineering, Medical, Compliance, and Regulatory teams to create user interfaces and conduct HF studies to ensure usability, safety, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.

The individual will perform the following tasks:

  • Plan and implement the human factors engineering process for product development projects.
  • Collaborate with System Engineers to establish user needs and interface specifications.
  • Conduct Use-Related Risk Analyses and propose design mitigations for identified risks.
  • Design user interfaces and instructional materials for devices and systems.
  • Conduct usability tests and other assessments to evaluate user experience.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation for regulatory submissions.
  • Design and carry out contextual inquiry research.
  • Perform task and workflow analyses.

Additional Responsibilities:

Assist in maintaining corporate policies and procedures regarding best practices in Human Factors.

Facilitate the selection and appropriate engagement of external Human Factors firms.


Qualifications:

MS or PhD in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field.

Strong understanding of Human Factors methodologies and principles.

4-8 years of experience in user interface design and usability testing.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Able to collaborate with diverse teams in dynamic environments.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Experience in pharmaceutical or medical device development is preferred.

Familiarity with medical devices and relevant regulations is advantageous.

Willingness to travel 10% - 25% of the time.
