Job Overview

Located in Northern California, Joby Aviation is a pioneering company that aims to revolutionize air transportation with an affordable, all-electric system.

Since 2009, our team has worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality, designing and testing multiple generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis.

We're seeking talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push towards certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will design clean C++ APIs used by all aircraft computers and improve the distributed computing framework used by all computers.

Additionally, you will work with system engineers to decompose equipment-level requirements into high-level and low-level software requirements in compliance with DO-178C.

You will design, implement, and test flight-critical software components with C++ and integrate these into the larger system.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering and 7+ years of full-time experience.
  • Expert knowledge of C++.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming methodology, multi-layered system architectures, and creating clean APIs.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of multi-threaded systems.
  • Experience with modern integrated development environments and debuggers.
  • Willingness to be flexible and learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work inside of a hybrid team (office & remote).
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with or knowledge of DO-178B/C, particularly writing low-level requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of distributed computing frameworks/IPC.
  • Demonstratable proficiency in other SW languages such as: Python, C#, C, SQL.
  • Experience using git version control.
  • A positive attitude and a passion for aerospace.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $120,400 - $191,900/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
