About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Chief Leschi Schools team as a Substitute Athletic Trainer. As a key member of our sports medicine team, you will provide temporary athletic training services to student-athletes, including injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities
  • Apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as taping, bandaging, or bracing, and supervise the fitting of protective equipment by student trainers.
  • Conduct initial assessments of athlete injuries or illnesses to provide emergency or continued care and determine whether they should be referred to a physician for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  • Conduct and evaluate head/injury/concussion pre-screening, recovery protocol, and return-to-play status.
  • Administer first aid to injured athletes and maintain accurate records of all injuries, treatments, and protocols provided.
  • Evaluate the status of injured athletes and make recommendations for return-to-play.
  • Work cooperatively with coaches, nurses, and sport medicine staff to set up and carry out a program of conditioning for athletes.
  • Provide advice to athletes, parents, and coaches on matters pertaining to health and wellness.
  • Act as a liaison between healthcare providers, school district staff, athletes, coaches, and parents.
  • Work with the school nurse to determine existing health conditions that may affect athletic participation and/or the general health and safety of athletes.
  • Provide coaches and site athletic directors with lists of student athletes who may require specialized medical care and/or medications, coordinate with the school nurse to ensure coaches have received the appropriate training to administer medications and respond to life-threatening medical conditions.
  • Provide coaches and site athletic directors with lists of student athletes who are medically eligible to participate under district and state rules and regulations.
  • Organize and direct daily athletic training room operations and duties.
  • Supervise student trainers and promote the transfer of skills in a lab setting.
  • Work cooperatively with and under the direction of the physician about reconditioning procedures.
  • Assess and report progress of recovering athletes to coaches, physicians, and parents.
  • Work closely with the school athletic director to prioritize coverage of events.
  • Travel with athletic teams to be available at both home and away practices and contests as scheduled by the district/site athletic directors.
  • Maintain the ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary/required.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training with a Master's degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience as an athletic trainer.
  • Washington State Athletic Training Licensure (or ability to become licensed prior to the first day of work).
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.
  • Washington State Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Valid Driver's License, and proof of insurability.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
