We are seeking a highly skilled Water Purification Systems Operator to join our team at American Water. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our water purification systems.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain water purification systems, including pumps, valves, and other mechanical equipment.
- Monitor and control water quality, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, including preventive maintenance duties.
- Establish and maintain process control through the water purification and washwater processes.
- Monitor and adjust chemical feed rates to optimize process operation.
- Perform water quality sampling, testing, and analysis to determine compliance with regulations.
- Operate and maintain raw water facilities, including reservoir supply, transmission, and pumping facilities.
- Perform general maintenance duties at water treatment plants and related facilities.
- Provide assistance to other company employees as directed by supervision.
- Perform emergency operating procedures and take corrective action to ensure continuous, effective operation of the water purification plant.
- High school graduate or state-recognized education equivalency certificate.
- Successful completion of correspondence course "Volume 1 - Water Treatment Plant Operation" offered by University of California at Sacramento.
- Previous employment in water treatment, hydrology, or related environmental science, civil, or environmental engineering, or analytical experience.
- Technical college coursework and/or degree in chemistry, environmental sciences, civil, or environmental engineering.
- Ability to obtain Waterworks Operators Certificate (Plant Specific) within one to three years, depending on class.
- Valid PA driver's license.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the general public and company personnel.
- Mathematical skills sufficient to calculate dosages, surface areas, volumes, weights, measures, and algebraic formulas.
- Ability to cope with environmental conditions, including contact with water, chemicals, fumes, odors, and dust.
- Experience with technically advanced computer control systems (SCADA) and advanced coagulant control using zeta meter.
