We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Associate to join our team at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research group focused on microbiome research, with a specific emphasis on boxwood blight.

Job Summary

The Postdoctoral Associate will work closely with our team to investigate the microbiome of boxwood crops, with a focus on understanding the interactions between the microbiome and the blight pathogen. The successful candidate will have a strong background in plant science, microbiology, or a related field, and will be expected to contribute to the development of research projects, collect and analyze data, and publish research findings in top-tier journals.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the microbiome of boxwood crops, with a focus on understanding the interactions between the microbiome and the blight pathogen.
  • Develop and implement research projects, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with our team to publish research findings in top-tier journals.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals and grants.
Requirements
  • PhD in plant science, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Strong background in plant science, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing technologies and metagenomics software.
  • Basic knowledge of plant pathology.
  • Research experience with boxwood crops or plantings.
