Job Description:

Duke Energy is seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Engineer III to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a key member of our Nuclear Fuels Engineering department, you will be responsible for performing complex transient thermal hydraulic simulations for all PWR Duke reactors.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program and a minimum of 4-6 years of engineering experience, with at least 1 year of nuclear experience. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing a variety of complex transient thermal hydraulic simulations for all PWR Duke reactors
  • Preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation
  • Developing, qualifying, and maintaining computer codes used in safety analysis
  • Collaborating with Duke, industry, vendor, and regulatory personnel
  • Participating in technical training activities
  • Performing analyses to determine containment temperature and pressure response to postulated pipe breaks using NRC approved codes and plant models
  • Working with Regulatory Compliance to create and/or review Licensing Amendment Requests (LAR) packages
  • Developing and helping license improved Safety Analysis methods which improve thermal margin and/or provide plant operational margins

The selected candidate will be subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until they become fully qualified. Ability to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance is also required.

This is a hybrid office/remote work environment with a flexible work schedule, typically four 10-hour days, 2 in office and 2 remote. Some travel to other Duke sites, industry sites, and industry conferences/meetings is required. Occasional off-hour emergent work may be necessary.
