Key Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse in Quality Control is responsible for reviewing specific records related to various clinical functions, including Chronic Illness Clinics, care assessments, and medication/treatment administration.

This role involves conducting chart reviews and engaging in quality improvement initiatives within Health Services.

The RN in Quality Assurance performs the following duties in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards and regulations:

  • Assist with inquiries from external agencies during audits or reviews.
  • Support the development of processes and procedures to ensure quality patient services and adherence to professional standards.
  • Engage in problem identification and data collection (audit).
  • Analyze data results, implement necessary changes, and monitor to determine if issues have been resolved or require further attention.
  • Utilize client audit tools to monitor clinical compliance of patient care and assist in creating corrective action plans for indicators with compliance below 90%.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, understand work processes, determine root causes of variation, develop feasible change options, measure the impact of improvements, and recommend further enhancements.
  • Identify areas of non-compliance and facilitate the integration of standards into work processes and systems.
  • Monitor the progress of long-term hospital inpatient admissions and communicate clinical concerns to the corporate utilization review department.
  • Assist the Health Service Administrator in providing clinical data to clients.
  • Measure the impact of improvement initiatives and review outcomes during monthly and quarterly Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) meetings, ensuring that improvement activities are documented and reported within the organization.
  • Plan and organize quality control programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical records and reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Competencies

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. A current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of employment is mandatory, with a copy of the license maintained on file at all times.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active RN license in this state.
  • Two (2) years of direct work experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA regulations and infection control standards is essential.
  • Competence in crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical nursing care, and psychiatric nursing care is required.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Ability to work independently while performing nursing assessments and providing appropriate treatment using approved protocols.
  • Proficiency in using computers and relevant software typically utilized in the department.

Facility Overview

The facility offers a comprehensive range of correctional services, including dental, medical, and psychological care, as well as education and vocational training. Work and educational programs are designed to reduce recidivism and encompass academic and vocational education, vocational planning, substance abuse education, general counseling, life skills, and transition planning.
