Position Overview

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is seeking qualified individuals for the role of temporary Field Inspectors within the Plant Industries division. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the health of our agricultural resources and the safety of our environment.

Key Responsibilities

Field Inspectors are tasked with the examination of agricultural fields to identify any signs of plant diseases or pest infestations. Adherence to established policies and systematic procedures is essential. Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting, documenting, and properly storing samples.
  • Following sanitation protocols diligently.
  • Reading and interpreting maps accurately.
  • Maintaining precise records of inspection locations, mileage, samples, and time spent on inspections.
  • Traveling to various field locations as required.

Work Environment

This position involves working outdoors in diverse weather conditions and may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended hours. Inspectors will often work independently or in small teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • Ability to read road maps.
  • Capability to hike or walk for extended periods over uneven terrain.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Possession of reliable transportation for travel between job sites.
  • Rubber boots are required, with potential reimbursement at the end of the season.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with farmers and field representatives.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Desirable Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications may enhance your application:

  • Experience in biology, ecology, or field inspection.
