About the Position:

This is a seasonal position that requires a high level of security awareness and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Under general direction, the Court Security Officer I performs work of routine difficulty in maintaining the safety and security of the Courts and court services personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Screen court visitors and patrol buildings, facilities, and grounds to ensure a secure environment.
  • Operate metal detectors, hand-wands, and x-ray screening machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects.
  • Inspect identification badges to control employee bypass entrances and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
  • Interact with difficult and/or belligerent persons to diffuse situations peacefully.
  • Carry and safely control court-approved and issued firearms and/or other defensive weapons.
  • Monitor closed circuit TV and various fire and security alarm systems.
  • Provide security escort services as requested and respond to emergencies and implement emergency procedures when appropriate.
  • Identify potential security/safety concerns and notify the Court Security Manager.
  • Prepare and submit reports on security incidents.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible relevant experience in court security, law enforcement, military, private security, or closely related field.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete the Court Security Officer Academy within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Must comply with the Arizona Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees and complete annual training as required by the Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET).
Physical Requirements:

The Court Security Officer I must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time and have sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. They must also be able to hear and speak effectively in-person and telephonically. The ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required. The position may also require the ability to physically restrain persons and effectively deal with stressful and potentially life-threatening emergency situations.
