Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide essential assistance with prescribed medications to residents, adhering to state regulations and community policies. Deliver individualized care and services to residents while upholding the community's core values and ensuring the residents' rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment are respected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following responsibilities are typical for this role. This list is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned.

  • Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right record/documentation) consistently during medication assistance. Verify each of the six 'rights' at three critical points:
    • When retrieving the medication from storage
    • Just before administering the medication
    • Immediately after the medication has been administered
  • Assist residents with their medications according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR), ensuring no errors are present, while respecting the resident's privacy.
  • Accurately document on the Medication Observation Record (MOR) following any medication administration, refusal, changes, or disposal.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding resident information in accordance with community policies.
  • Notify the Nurse of any changes in a resident's condition, adverse reactions to medications, or any concerns raised by residents.
  • Report any medication errors promptly and honestly.
  • Maintain an organized and clean medication cart/cabinet, restocking as necessary.
  • Be responsible for a designated group of residents during shifts, ensuring their whereabouts and well-being.
  • Observe, report, and document any changes in residents' conditions, including skin integrity, behavior, alertness, weight, and participation in activities.
  • Respond promptly to security systems and resident call bells.
  • Inform supervisors or the Director of Nursing if a resident's care needs increase.
  • Assist with continence management and ensure proper disposal of all related products to maintain sanitation.
  • Serve and collect food trays, assisting residents as needed, and report any refusals or loss of appetite.
  • Ensure cleanliness in residents' rooms and work areas.
  • Practice good hygiene and health standards consistently.
  • Support residents in maintaining independence while promoting their dignity and safety.
  • Actively engage residents in daily living activities (e.g., bathing, dressing, grooming, eating) as instructed.
  • Encourage participation in life skills and enrichment activities.
  • Provide assistance to all customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors, and team members.
  • Perform resident laundry as assigned.
  • Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Preferred certification as a Nurse's Aide.
  • Completion of the 6-hour Medication Technician course, with required updates as per law.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Previous experience working with seniors is preferred.
