Correctional Medicine LPN

As a Licensed Practical Nurse with MetroHealth, you will provide direct nursing care to inmates/patients in a correctional facility. This role requires a high level of compassion, empathy, and understanding of the unique challenges faced by this population. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician to provide medical care, administer medications, and develop care plans to meet the individual needs of each patient.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to inmates/patients, including administering medications, performing vital signs, and developing care plans.
Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care and achieve optimal health outcomes.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, including medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current on best practices and evidence-based care.
Requirements:
Graduate of an approved School of Practical Nursing.
Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Board of Nursing, which includes certification to pass medications AND completion of an Ohio Board of Nursing IV therapy course.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year experience in an in-patient or long term care setting, as appropriate.
Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance.
Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Requires some exposure to chemicals.
