About the Role

GLG is seeking a highly skilled Data Taxonomist to join our Data Operations team. As a Data Taxonomist, you will play a critical role in identifying, building, and maintaining taxonomies and associated metadata that enable our powerful search capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain taxonomies, including crosswalks and associated metadata, to support our search capabilities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business and engineering teams to understand their needs and design solutions to meet those needs.
  • Analyze data to understand usage patterns and translate those patterns into data solutions.
  • Develop processes for data cleaning and creation exercises and create training programs for offshore resources.
Requirements
  • At least two years of experience defining, building, or maintaining taxonomies or ontologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program or Bachelor's degree in Linguistics or Computational Linguistics.
  • Relevant work experience with data analysis, collection development, discovery services, electronic resources management, or technical services in an academic or public library.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Python or SQL.
  • Experience with taxonomy tools like Synaptica, Smartlogic Semaphore, or Pool Party.
  • Implementing natural language processing (NLP) and/or large language model (LLM) data projects.
