Aircraft Avionics Technician Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Avionics Technician to join our team at Amentum. As an Aircraft Avionics Technician, you will be responsible for adjusting, repairing, and replacing electrical wiring and aircraft system avionics. You will also maintain and repair aircraft components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions.
  • Apply required expertise to restore equipment condition and operation.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Service engines and airframe components at line station, making repairs short of overhaul to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
  • May specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies.
  • May be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Receive technical guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician, and may lead teams through complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • May be required to troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools.
  • Working knowledge of avionics systems, including maintenance parameters, systems operations, limitations, and technical orders.
  • Knowledge of military publications (including electronic manuals), drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications.
  • Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
  • All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA-certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox, with tools shadowed and PID etched in each tool.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
Preferred/Physical Qualifications:
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.
  • Work is performed in an Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
