Salary & Benefits

The salary for this position is estimated at around $60,000 per year, commensurate with other prestigious U.S. postdoctoral fellowships. A comprehensive benefits package includes excellent paid time off, medical, dental, and vision plans, and a retirement benefit contributing 10% of base pay.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will contribute to the development of AI tools and methodologies for analyzing large datasets from the NRAO telescopes. Your expertise will help us accelerate discoveries in astronomy and make our data more accessible to researchers, students, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Develop AI algorithms and software for analyzing astronomical data
  • Collaborate with the CosmicAI team on research projects and publications
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of AI-based data processing pipelines
  • Maintain and improve existing software and tools

Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, Data Science, or a related field
  • Previous experience in data science, data reduction, and analysis, as well as software development
  • An established record of independent research
  • Research expertise in interferometric radio/millimeter/submillimeter astronomy
  • Proficiency working with geographically distributed teams

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with standard radio astronomy data reduction software (e.g., CASA)
  • Experience with modern machine learning/deep learning techniques and software packages
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) or high-throughput computing (HTC)
  • Experience with high-dimensional data
