The Chief Technology Officer and Director for Software (CTO-DS) provides senior technical leadership, management, and strategy for NOIRLab's activities in software engineering, scientific computing, and information technology (IT), as well as scientific data management systems.
About This RoleThis position offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape the technical direction of NOIRLab's software engineering efforts. As CTO-DS, you will oversee the development and implementation of cutting-edge software solutions that drive innovation in astronomical research.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define technical strategies, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop plans to address complex technical challenges. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of NOIRLab's software engineering capabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide strategic technical leadership and direction to NOIRLab's software engineering teams
- Develop and implement technical strategies to advance NOIRLab's software engineering capabilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and develop technical roadmaps
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and develop plans to address technical challenges
- Lead the development and implementation of software solutions that meet NOIRLab's business needs
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering, scientific computing, or IT
- Proven track record of leading technical teams and developing strategic plans
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to think critically and solve complex technical problems
The estimated salary for this position is $170,000 - $220,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
