Summary of Position:
This role is accountable for overseeing the 7200 volt distribution network. The supervisor will manage and coordinate the activities of the Electrical Department involved in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of equipment pertinent to electrical operations. Responsibilities include the upkeep and renovation of university facilities, focusing on distribution systems, battery systems, emergency lighting systems, preventative maintenance, generators, and more. The position also entails serving as a project manager, providing oversight for both contracted and in-house construction and renovation projects, as well as ensuring the safety and functionality of campus conveyance systems (e.g., elevators, lifts, etc.).

Required Work Experience:
A minimum of five years in the electrical sector with demonstrable experience in industrial, commercial, residential, and maintenance work. Proven experience in medium and high voltage electrical distribution maintenance and repairs, along with three years of supervisory experience related to the electrical trade, particularly in high voltage and distribution systems.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
State of Michigan Master Electrician license. Valid driver's license.

An Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution, preferably in electrical engineering, management, or a related field. Familiarity with electrical theory principles as they apply to circuits, wiring systems, power, and distribution. Understanding of occupational hazards associated with voltage distribution equipment to prevent Arc Flash. Management and/or maintenance experience with conveyance systems. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and electronic work order and timekeeping systems.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Supervise and schedule master, journeyman, and apprentice electricians, along with student workers assigned to the department. Assign tasks, evaluate staff work for compliance with codes, workmanship, and quality. Collaborate with other department supervisors to ensure timely completion of work. Approve employee leave requests to maintain adequate response levels within the department. Respond to emergencies and direct workforce activities year-round. Maintain necessary documentation for accuracy in the CMMS work order system. Support engineering and project management teams with maintenance and construction projects. Conduct inspections of electrical storage and equipment areas to ensure safety and security. Attend meetings and provide necessary documentation. Participate in seminars and training to enhance knowledge and skills. Ensure compliance with work rules and union contracts. Monitor departmental efficiency and adherence to safety procedures. Ensure compliance with electrical and building codes. Review work order requests, schedule labor, and manage material orders. Interact with vendors to stay informed about new products and contractor performance. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and university policies. Maintain confidentiality of designated information. Supervise employees in the Electrical Department, Elevator Mechanic, and student workers as assigned. Update and maintain departmental standards and specifications. Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Ability to organize, schedule, and supervise employees effectively. Comprehensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code and other relevant codes. Working knowledge of high voltage systems. Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships, with strong oral and written communication skills. Evaluate staff performance and assess employee skill levels to meet departmental goals. Knowledge of safe operation of personnel lifts, bucket trucks, and digger derrick trucks. Perform basic mathematical functions accurately. Basic computer skills are required. Provide estimates for labor and materials to assist in project budgeting and timelines. Read and interpret construction drawings, charts, and specifications. Understand and proficiently administer union contracts and labor relations.
