Position Overview

The selected individual will be stationed at the Harford County Detention Center, primarily tasked with ensuring the safety and supervision of the inmate population. Note: This position includes a $10,000 recruitment incentive upon successful hiring and completion of training.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee and ensure the safety, care, and management of inmates.
  2. React promptly to emergencies within the facility.
  3. Address the inquiries, needs, and grievances of inmates.
  4. Collect data and draft written reports and documentation.
  5. Conduct security checks and inspections throughout the facility.
  6. Utilize various security equipment and devices.
  7. Participate in roll-call and attend mandatory training sessions.
  8. Maintain uniforms and equipment in proper condition.
  9. Fulfill additional job-related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education.
  2. Valid Class D or Class C non-commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
  3. No criminal convictions on record.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
  1. Effective interaction with inmates, the public, and law enforcement agencies.
  2. Ability to remain calm and exercise appropriate judgment in high-pressure situations.
  3. Adaptability to changing work environments.
  4. Capability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
  5. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Competence in following both written and verbal instructions.
Candidate Requirements:
  1. Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen with a minimum of 10 years of verifiable residency.
  2. Successful completion of an entrance-level examination.
  3. Pass a physical agility assessment.
  4. Undergo a thorough background check, medical examination, drug screening, polygraph test, and psychological evaluation.
  5. Provide a handwriting sample for assessment.
  6. Receive a favorable recommendation from the Oral Interview Board.
  7. Visible tattoos are allowed if they are not offensive or inappropriate.
  8. Complete a 12-week training program at the MPCTC Entrance Level Correctional Academy.
  9. Exhibit honesty, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills; any criminal history may lead to disqualification.
