Laborer - Underground Construction Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laborer to join our team at Midcontinent Communications. As a Laborer, you will play a critical role in supporting our underground construction crews with the installation, maintenance, relocation, and repair of underground fiber infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct manual labor activities, including digging trenches/holes, exposing existing underground utilities, and maintaining a clean and safe work zone.
  • Install utility pedestals, cabinets, and hand holes.
  • Handle materials, including conduit, fiber/cable pulling and installation.
  • Perform site restoration and cleanup activities, including grade preparation, black dirt, seeding, and concrete restoration.
  • Operate light-duty equipment, such as skid steers, hydro-vacuums, jackhammers, concrete saws, and power tampers.
  • Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Set up safety perimeters using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
  • Enforce safety rules and procedures to ensure the safety of employees and communities.
  • Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with company policies.
  • Follow and model company Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.
  • Adhere to company privacy guidelines to ensure customer privacy.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required by your position.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in the installation of telecommunications infrastructure preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, state and local regulations, and general safety standards.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 84 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate/high.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and maneuver in small areas.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee must be able to work in an outdoor environment year-round in all weather conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.
  • Employees may be required to work more than 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings, and weekends as business demands.
  • The employee could be required to travel up to 50% of flexible scheduled hours.
