This role involves acting as a project engineer responsible for the planning and design of initiatives aimed at modernizing federal aviation facilities. Key responsibilities include developing project plans, scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations, as well as creating drawings, specifications, and risk management documents in collaboration with various stakeholders from technical operations and air traffic management.

The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects including environmental equipment installations, mechanical systems, roofing, parking lot construction, facility renovations, and security enhancements. This position requires a proactive approach to project management, allowing for independent work while keeping the project engineer informed of significant challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct on-site assessments to create detailed designs and reports.
  • Develop sketches illustrating the relationship of proposed installations within existing or new structures, ensuring precise specifications and dimensions.
  • Engage in construction inspections and final evaluations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and other personnel to troubleshoot design or implementation issues.
  • Coordinate design elements with multidisciplinary teams for site-specific modifications and new constructions.
  • Create AutoCAD construction drawings and prepare site-specific specifications and contract documents, along with independent cost estimates.
  • Manage project-related communications and tasks, including safety plans and work sequences.
  • Generate and oversee Integrated Risk Management Checklists (IRMC) and project risk registers to fulfill Operational Risk Management (ORM) requirements.
  • Complete necessary Work Permits for potential hazards related to lead and asbestos during construction.
  • Participate in pre-construction and on-site meetings with stakeholders to synchronize ongoing projects.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate construction activities to achieve project milestones, working closely with stakeholders and contractors.
  • Oversee on-site cutovers, testing, and facility restorations.
  • Maintain and provide regular updates on project status to the team and stakeholders.
  • Handle multiple projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Review contractor submissions related to design and construction.
  • Provide technical engineering support throughout all phases of new construction and renovation projects, including evaluating shop drawings and design proposals.
  • Conduct internal design reviews of FAA engineering projects.
  • Track and resolve issues related to Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI) for all assigned projects.
  • Review project deliverables and communicate findings effectively.
  • Respond promptly to project RFIs (Requests for Information) and related submissions.
  • Monitor project progress and stakeholder requirements.
  • Independently assess, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, making necessary adaptations to designs.
Basic Qualifications:
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in foundation design and industrial structural systems (steel and concrete) within commercial, industrial, or government facilities.
  • Current knowledge of building structural codes to perform design calculations and engineering assessments.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and engineering scheduling tools, with the ability to utilize the Internet for research and communication.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD / MicroStation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation and coordinate effectively with diverse project stakeholders.
  • Experience in maintaining electronic project folders related to site preparation and equipment installation.
  • Eligibility to obtain an FAA Public Trust clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship or Green Card status with three years of residency in the U.S.
  • Successful completion of a drug test prior to employment.
