Our Occupational/Hand Therapist position involves conducting patient assessments and delivering therapeutic interventions, including all necessary documentation as mandated by the state licensing authority. This role also includes supervising therapy assistants, technicians, and support staff while ensuring effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, case managers, and insurance representatives.

Essential Qualifications

Experience and Credentials
  • Must hold a valid Occupational/Hand Therapist license in North Carolina.
  • Certification as a Hand Therapist is preferred, though other qualified candidates will be considered.
  • Proficient in using email and engaging with online applications.
  • Familiarity with practice management and word processing software is required.
  • Current CPR certification is necessary.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills are essential.
  • New graduates are welcome, but outpatient clinical experience is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in an orthopedic rehabilitation environment, particularly in outpatient settings, is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks and demands.
  • Excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Must maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate functional, prevocational, vocational, and daily living skills training.
  • Engage in sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities aimed at helping patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning.
  • Collaborate with the rehabilitation team to design activity programs tailored to individual needs and capabilities, integrating occupational therapy with other therapeutic modalities.
  • Select appropriate activities that enhance individual independence, prepare patients for re-entry into the workforce, assist in function restoration, and support adjustment to disabilities.
  • Instruct patients in skills and techniques necessary for participation in activities and assess their progress.
  • Design and create specialized equipment for patients and recommend modifications to their work or living environments.
  • Plan, organize, and implement occupational therapy programs in various settings to assist in the rehabilitation of individuals affected by illness, injury, or psychological or developmental challenges.
  • Assess and evaluate patients' physical and mental capabilities and analyze medical data to establish realistic rehabilitation goals.
  • Choose activities that promote the development of work and life-management skills within the limits of patients' mental and physical abilities.
  • Monitor patient progress and prepare detailed reports on their development.
  • Maintain accurate and necessary records.
  • Educate caregivers on how to meet the needs of patients during and after therapy.
  • Advise on modifications to patients' work or living environments to align with their needs and capabilities.
  • Design and implement programs and social activities that assist patients in acquiring work and school skills while adapting to disabilities.
  • Create or requisition specialized supplies and equipment, such as splints, braces, and adaptive devices.
  • Support patients in enhancing decision-making, abstract reasoning, memory, sequencing, coordination, and perceptual skills through computer-assisted programs.
  • Prepare materials such as puzzles, scissors, and utensils for therapy sessions, ensuring cleanliness and repair of tools post-session.
Additional Responsibilities
  • May conduct training sessions or assist in educating medical and nursing students and other personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
  • Engage in health promotion initiatives, group activities, or discussions aimed at enhancing client health, facilitating social integration, reducing stress, and preventing physical or mental disabilities.
  • Provide guidance on workplace health risks and health-related transitions to retirement.
  • Develop programs involving activities such as manual arts and crafts.
  • Assist patients in job searching and securing employment.
  • Offer training and supervision in therapy techniques and objectives for students, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Director of Therapy.
