Position Overview

Zap Energy is seeking highly skilled and motivated Fusion Plasma Research Scientists to spearhead experimental initiatives, encompassing data evaluation, error analysis, publication, and dissemination of both experimental and computational findings.

In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse team of scientific, engineering, and technical professionals at Zap Energy, contributing to the design, assembly, and operational phases of the innovative Zap Energy SFS Z-pinch experiment. You will also play a pivotal role in mentoring junior scientific staff. The ideal candidate will be an organized and inventive problem solver, adept at navigating technical challenges and implementing effective solutions through collaborative efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or execute experimental initiatives
  • Collaborate with Zap Energy's scientific and engineering teams to aid in the design, assembly, and operational execution of research experiments
  • Conduct data analysis, error assessment, publication, and presentation of experimental and computational results
  • Support the design and operation of various plasma diagnostic systems, including Thomson scattering, interferometry, spectroscopy, and magnetics

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proven experience in the design, assembly, operation, and analysis of fusion plasma physics experiments
  • Capability to devise and implement experimental run campaigns
  • Comprehensive knowledge of plasma diagnostics and instrumentation, including:
    • Optical Thomson scattering
    • Laser interferometry techniques
    • Spectroscopy methods
    • Neutronics systems
    • Magnetic diagnostic tools
  • Experience with data acquisition systems
  • Proficiency in data analysis, including reduction and error interpretation
  • Ability to operate and maintain diagnostic equipment
  • Demonstrated record of publications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • 0-5+ years of post-PhD experience in fusion plasma physics research
