Job Summary

Zap Energy is seeking a highly skilled Data Acquisition and Instrumentation Engineer to join its R&D team. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement software and hardware systems to collect and analyze data from Zap's fusion development platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement data acquisition systems using software services, electronics, and measurement competencies
  • Collaborate with scientists to develop and deploy experiment data collection and storage solutions
  • Administer databases and software services on Linux to provide access and insight into experimental data
  • Interface with networked hardware devices using command line interfaces or binary protocols
  • Develop and maintain software applications using Python, Linux shell, and other programming languages
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical discipline
  • At least 5 years' professional experience in a collaborative scientific or industrial R&D environment
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python and Linux shell
  • Experience administering databases and software services on Linux
  • Functional understanding of networking and experience interfacing with networked hardware devices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to study and effectively use APIs from commercial vendors or open-source projects
  • Competency in common scientific measurement equipment
  • Familiarity with science data storage technologies
  • Experience in a high-voltage environment and signal interference sources

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $90K-130K. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and the actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications.

Zap Energy is building a low-cost, compact, and scalable fusion energy platform that confines and compresses plasma without the need for expensive and complex magnetic coils. Zap's sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch technology provides compelling fusion economics and requires orders of magnitude less capital than conventional approaches.
