Job Overview

Position Summary

The Surface Preparation Technician is responsible for preparing metal castings by removing unwanted materials such as scale, dirt, and shell, while achieving the desired finish through various techniques.

Compensation: $20.00 (Based on Experience)

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes abrasives like sand, grit, or shot, pouring them into the machine hopper as required.
  • Efficiently loads components into blasting cabinets.
  • Adjusts valves on machinery to control the pressure and composition of the abrasive mixture.
  • Operates equipment that directs a stream of abrasive-laden air, gas, or liquid onto the surfaces of the components.
  • Manually directs the nozzle over large parts or uses gloves to handle smaller items under the nozzle for the specified duration.
  • Inspects finished products to ensure they meet the required specifications.
  • Conducts regular checks on sandblast cabinets and nozzles for wear and tear.
  • Monitors the condition of the Aluminum Oxide blast media, discarding any that appears degraded, and replenishing with fresh media as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 0-3 years preferred.
  • Education: High School diploma is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Language: Basic understanding of English is necessary.
  • Ability to follow simple instructions and work directions.
  • Basic math and computer skills are required.
