Boston, Massachusetts, United States Arrowstreet Capital Full time

Position Summary

The Lead HPC Simulation Engineer will serve as a pivotal contributor to the architecture and development efforts within the team dedicated to the computational framework for the Research Systems division. As a systematic asset manager, Arrowstreet Capital is committed to identifying viable trading strategies and executing them with precision and excellence. Therefore, establishing a robust, scalable, and high-performance general compute platform is of utmost significance.

A primary focus of this position is enhancing the portfolio simulation capabilities, where we assess the impact of various investment strategy modifications (e.g., new financial instruments, altered entry and exit protocols, diverse trading cost assessments, etc.). The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of extensive computing systems, code parallelization, data structure memory organization, and financial instruments. Equally important is the implementation of software functionalities requested by the Quantitative Research team, alongside ensuring the reliable and efficient execution of financial operations across large HPC clusters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain compute platforms both on-premises and in cloud environments.
  • Collaborate closely with Research group members to analyze and define system requirements that simulate the effects of numerous variations to core investment strategies.
  • Create design proposals for innovative technical solutions that align with business needs while ensuring high performance, scalability, and maintainability, primarily utilizing Python, C#, and/or Rust.
  • Facilitate technical design discussions within the team to gather insights, evaluate the advantages and risks of various approaches, and achieve consensus on the intended architecture.
  • Oversee software projects from inception to completion, encompassing requirements gathering, design, development, testing, project management, and support functions.
  • Mentor other team members on development tasks.
  • Advocate for high-quality code through rigorous code reviews.
  • Provide operational support for the platform to avert disruptions in investment processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with large-scale, high-performance distributed systems.
  • Exceptional software architecture design capabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of computer systems architecture, operating systems, I/O, and memory management.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing complex production systems using Python or another object-oriented programming language.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing cloud-native solutions on public cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
  • A strong passion for software development and a keen interest in learning new technologies.
  • Familiarity with financial mathematics and trading strategies is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Kubernetes is advantageous.
  • Data Engineering experience is a plus.
  • Enjoyment of analytical problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail, drive, energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism.

We foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment and prioritize professionalism, attitude, and initiative.
