Sustainable Landscaping Supervisor Job Description

Join the City of Kyle, TX team as a Sustainable Landscaping Supervisor, responsible for overseeing the ornamental landscape beds, landscape contracts, and ornamental hardscapes for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Supervision: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Program Development and Implementation: Develop, plan, implement, coordinate, administer, and evaluate programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and service offerings.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the inventory and maintenance of the plant inventory of the city's parks, facilities, and rights-of-way.
  • Sustainable Practices: Implement best management practices in horticulture and sustainable land management, promoting the city's conservation and greening initiatives.
  • Communication and Presentation: Make presentations to the City Council, employee groups, or the public as needed, providing clear and concise information.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agronomy, natural sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of supervisory experience in landscape management, with a strong background in horticulture and sustainable practices.
  • Licenses and Certifications: TDA Pesticide Applicator's License with a Landscape category, and an arborist certification (preferred).
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS, CAD, Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new computer/information systems.
  • Communication and Leadership: Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact well with a diverse population and provide excellent customer service.
Working Conditions:

The Sustainable Landscaping Supervisor will work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The position requires regular attendance at the assigned worksite and may involve working on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
