Job Title: Sustainable Landscaping Supervisor

Join the City of Kyle, TX team as a Sustainable Landscaping Supervisor, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and development of ornamental landscape beds, landscape contracts, and ornamental hardscapes for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Hire, train, and supervise staff to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Develop and implement sustainable landscape plans, including best management practices in horticulture and land management.
• Oversee the inventory and maintenance of plant inventory for the city's parks, facilities, and rights-of-way.
• Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices and provide guidance on plant and pest identification for Central Texas.
• Collaborate with the Conservation Manager to develop and implement conservation and greening initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance and support to staff on sustainable landscaping practices and horticulture.
• Respond to internal and public inquiries and complaints, and assist with resolutions and alternative recommendations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agronomy, natural sciences, or related field.
• At least 5 years of supervisory experience in landscape management.
• 10 years of landscape supervisor experience and relevant licenses or certifications may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
• Master's degree in a related field preferred but not required.
• TDA Pesticide Applicator's License with a Landscape category required.
• Arborist certification preferred but not required.
• TCEQ Irrigator's License preferred but not required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, and implementation.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact well with a diverse population.
• Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize multiple tasks and proactively problem solve.
• Techniques for dealing effectively with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.

Positions in this classification occasionally lift and carry computer and other equipment, reports, and records that typically weigh less than forty (40) pounds.

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
