Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Education Assistant to join our team at the Dallas Independent School District. The successful candidate will provide support to certified teachers in assigned areas, relieving them of various tasks and enabling them to focus on instructional activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in conducting learning experiences for students, including intensified learning activities and relieving certified teachers of non-instructional tasks.
  • Support teachers and students in achieving program objectives and activities.
  • Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher.
  • Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up learning activities.
  • Help students with daily work and finding activities suitable for homework.
  • Review class activities and daily homework.
  • Supervise class breakfast and lunch activities.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, homework, and social behavior.
  • Distribute informative letters to parents regarding their child's progress.
  • Assist in filing and organizing materials for record retention and distribution.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, attendance, and files.
Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Qualifications
  • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or pass an academic assessment.
  • Paraprofessional certificate required from the State Board of Certification.
  • One year of experience working with children.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
