Maintenance Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Hernando County, FL. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing semi-skilled labor in a field environment, maintaining grounds, buildings, fences, and structures at all water and wastewater facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment, including tractors, forklifts, and boom truck cranes, as needed.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on equipment and tools according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Utilize heavy equipment, power tools, and hand tools to maintain grounds and make repairs to buildings, facilities, and utilities structures.
  • Assist in the renovation, repairs, and modifications of structures, buildings, and facilities as directed.
  • Operate heavy equipment for cleaning and resurfacing percolation ponds at wastewater facilities as required by the Department of Environmental Protection and facility operating permit.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance or a combination of education and field experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Forklift and aerial platform certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
Working Conditions:

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to hazardous conditions, dust, fumes, and heat. The incumbent must be able to work near powerlines, water and sewer lines, and other utilities. The position also requires working in awkward positions to repair equipment and in an environment where errors can lead to significant physical or mental consequences.
