Research Scientist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technologist to join our team at the Laboratory of Karolina Skibicka in the College of Health and Human Development, Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting experiments, supporting lab operations, and participating in scientific discussions about experimental design, analysis, and interpretation of results.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct experiments and supporting lab operations, including animal behavioral training on motivated and emotionality behavior paradigms.
- Collect and analyze behavioral, photometry, and in situ hybridization or immunohistochemistry data.
- Order lab supplies, assist with regulatory compliance, and participate in scientific discussions about experimental design, analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Support the training and experiments of other lab members with various research projects.
Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preference will be given to applicants with degrees in neuroscience, nutrition, psychology, or a related field.
- Excellent hands-on skills necessary for various surgical and analytical procedures.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Motivation to learn new techniques.
- Experience with animal research or computer-based statistical and graphical programs.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary range: $34,800.00 - $50,500.00.
- Excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
- Generous vacation time (18 days per year) and sick time (12 days a year).
- Paid holidays (13 per calendar year).
