Hartford HealthCare's Ayer Neuroscience Institute is seeking a dedicated Neuro-Trauma / Neuro-Spine Neurosurgeon to enhance our team at Hartford Hospital.

Hartford Hospital is a leading 867-bed academic medical facility located in the vibrant downtown area. It is recognized as a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, NAEC Level 4 Epilepsy Center, and a Joint Commission Advanced Spine Center.

The neurosurgery department at Hartford Hospital is one of the most active in New England, staffed by 9 experienced Neurosurgeons and over 20 Physician Assistants, performing more than 2,000 neurosurgical procedures annually. Our program encompasses a wide range of subspecialties, including Functional Neurosurgery, Epilepsy, Skull Base Surgery, Complex Spine Surgery, Neurosurgical Oncology, Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, as well as trauma care.

The incoming surgeon will be presented with an immediate patient volume, focusing on urgent cases, neuro-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries, alongside complex spine procedures. The role also allows for the maintenance of an elective practice, in addition to acute and urgent surgical interventions. Furthermore, the surgeon will lead the neurosurgery component of the trauma team, oversee the Head Injury Program, and act as a liaison for Neurocritical Care.

Practice and Facility Highlights:

  • Comprehensive 867-bed facility with specialized Neurosurgery Operating Rooms, dedicated neuroscience units, and a Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit.
  • Designated Level 1 trauma center, Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, NAEC Level 4 Epilepsy Center, and Joint Commission Advanced Spine Center.
  • Access to advanced surgical technologies, including Mazor X spine robots, Medtronic O-Arm and Stealth Navigation systems, and Zeiss microscopes.
  • Five dedicated Neurosurgery Operating Rooms supported by a skilled OR team.
  • Two specialized neuroscience units and a dedicated 23-bed Neuroscience ICU, staffed with neurocritical care nurses, Advanced Practice Providers, and 8 Neurointensivists.
  • Dedicated Neurosurgery Nurse Navigators to assist patients throughout their care journey.
  • Collaboration with UCONN School of Medicine for the Neurosurgery Residency Program.
  • Opportunities for teaching and collaborative clinical research, supported by UCONN's dedicated research department.
  • Air ambulance service (LIFE STAR) available for patient transport across New England.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Strong interest in Neuro-Trauma and Neuro-Spine Surgery.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Neurosurgery.
  • Possession of a Connecticut medical license or eligibility for licensure in Connecticut.
