Position Summary
The Journeyman Lineman plays a crucial role in the construction and upkeep of poles, power lines, and related equipment essential for electricity distribution. This position collaborates closely with the Line team and other departmental personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, maintain, and inspect electrical transmission and distribution lines.
- Utilize technical expertise to ensure reliable electrical services, completing tasks with precision and efficiency.
- Manage the installation, removal, and relocation of various electrical devices, including transformers and switches.
- Reroute power lines as necessary to accommodate existing structures.
- Inspect and remove damaged power lines as required.
- Assist in the physical handling of poles and excavation tasks for pole installation or replacement.
- Perform line switching or sectionalizing as instructed.
- Provide on-the-job training for apprentices and fellow crew members in line maintenance and construction.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues on customer equipment.
- Operate bucket trucks to transport to job sites and maintain necessary equipment stock.
- Address consumer complaints and execute repairs on energized electrical distribution lines as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a lineman.
- Journeyman Lineman certification.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Valid Class A CDL.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 or more years of lineman experience.
- OSHA 20 Certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position operates primarily in field settings, requiring physical endurance for tasks such as bending, climbing, and lifting. Employees may encounter various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, maintain clarity of vision at varying distances, and demonstrate precise hand-eye coordination.
