Essential Responsibilities:
  • The Cardiac Sonographer is tasked with executing Transthoracic echocardiograms, preparing and assisting with Transesophageal Echocardiograms, and under the guidance of a certified echocardiographer, setting up and conducting exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms in accordance with the standards established by the American Society of Echocardiography and the organization.
  • This role requires demonstrating growing proficiency in providing care primarily to an adult demographic. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
  • Exhibits expertise by performing both routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, and Transesophageal echocardiograms as requested by physicians and following standard protocols.
  • Delivers echocardiography services across various locations, accommodating flexible shifts, weekends, and providing emergency call coverage as required.
  • Operates necessary equipment to carry out all required procedures, ensuring optimal imaging through the use of selected transducers, digital networking systems, and offline analysis systems. Identifies basic cardiac conditions and reviews patient medical histories to gather essential information for diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepares preliminary reports for cardiologist review and interpretation, including comparisons with previous studies. Maintains equipment functionality, performing minor adjustments and repairs as needed.
  • Conducts routine cleaning and preventive maintenance of equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the echo lab manager. Assists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms, ensuring proper cleaning and sterilization of TEE probes, and conducting leakage tests in line with departmental policies.
  • Ensures a clean and organized patient care environment. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, assessing procedure outcomes for technical quality and accuracy, and maintaining appropriate logs and records. Reviews departmental performance against established objectives, implementing necessary changes to enhance outcomes. Prepares and educates patients before and after procedures.
  • Utilizes ultrasound contrast in accordance with ASE guidelines and departmental policies, including a clear understanding and communication of potential side effects.
Qualifications:
  • A recent graduate or one to three years of experience as a cardiac sonographer is required. A two-year Allied Health degree and successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP accredited School of Ultrasound Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or equivalent education is preferred.
  • Prior healthcare experience, such as CNA, EMT, PCA, or similar roles, is advantageous.
