Position Overview:
The Logistics Operations Supervisor will manage the daily functions and overall condition of warehouse and yard facilities in alignment with each regional office or geographic area, while directly overseeing Warehouse Leads or Supervisors. This role will also entail ensuring the accuracy of systems and information, forecasting equipment utilization and storage needs, and optimizing warehouse locations to minimize waste and loss.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise Warehouse Leads and Supervisors, including overseeing work activities, approving timecards and leave requests, coaching and developing various levels of warehouse personnel, and assessing staffing requirements. Ensure that warehouse and yard areas at each facility are clean, well-maintained, free from hazards, and ready for inspections or audits at all times. Acquire knowledge of and manage warehouse-specific software and data requirements; ensure accuracy in inventory management, pick tickets, and dispatch of items. Collaborate with warehouse locations (both within and outside the regional area) and liaise with accounting or sales departments as necessary to meet customer needs. Analyze logistical data to determine the most efficient and cost-effective methods for transporting or storing goods. Assist warehouse staff in troubleshooting and resolving supply chain, warehousing, or logistical challenges. Oversee warehouse operations to ensure adherence to safety standards, administrative policies, and regulatory requirements. Monitor warehouse finances and evaluate potential impacts on regional office profit and loss; engage in planning and budgeting for warehouse operations. Participate in inventory audits and assessments at the end of each month, quarter, or year as required. Maintain comprehensive records, logs, process documentation, and necessary reports on a daily basis. Coordinate and direct inbound and outbound shipments to ensure proper cataloging, safety, and quality; perform inspections of incoming or outgoing items as needed. Ensure all staff are trained in and adhere to safety protocols for warehouse operations and equipment, and conduct safety training when necessary. Engage with customers, drivers, vendors, auditors, and visitors in a manner consistent with MEI's mission and policies. Manage each warehouse facility as a profit center, organizing work activities and resources to maximize efficiency. Travel frequently to local warehouse locations; occasional overnight travel may be necessary. Perform any additional duties as assigned or required.Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education or certification in a related field preferred. At least two (2) years of supervisory experience required, preferably in warehousing or supply chain; a combination of education and experience will be considered. Valid Driver's license and insurability required. Proficient in Windows-based computer systems, with advanced knowledge of software (especially MS Office) and the ability to learn new applications. Experience operating industrial machinery and various powered equipment. Understanding of logistics related to trucking and interstate transportation. Familiarity with OSH regulations relevant to warehousing and logistics; knowledge of laws and regulations specific to the relevant states or regions. Ability to maintain legible records in English and comprehend grammatical nuances and word meanings. Willingness to travel locally, both on a scheduled and as-needed basis. Competence in mathematical concepts and calculations, including fractions, percentages, and geometry.Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
This role involves significant physical activity. A Logistics Operations Supervisor must be capable of performing General Physical Activities, which include considerable use of arms and legs, and moving the entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials weighing up to 50 pounds. The position requires the ability to work at varying heights and remain unaffected by moving machinery. Work environments may vary between indoor, climate-controlled warehouses and outdoor settings in various weather conditions, including uneven terrain. The Logistics Operations Supervisor may also be required to sit or stand for extended periods and utilize standard office equipment, frequently engaging senses of sight, sound, and manual dexterity.
