Position Summary:

The Head Start Teacher plays a crucial role in the design, execution, and management of a comprehensive early childhood education program. This position guarantees the provision of high-quality educational experiences for children, adhering to Head Start Performance Standards, policies, and procedures. The Head Start Teacher collaborates closely with families to foster children's growth and readiness for school.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Design and Execution:
  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that encourage cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth in children.
  • Utilize the Head Start curriculum framework, such as Creative Curriculum or High Scope Curriculum, ensuring alignment with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Integrate culturally relevant materials and activities into the educational framework.

Classroom Leadership:
  • Foster a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning atmosphere for children.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and routines that promote positive behavior.
  • Conduct continuous assessments of children's development and progress.

Family Involvement:
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with families.
  • Conduct home visits and parent-teacher meetings to discuss children's development and progress.
  • Provide families with resources and referrals as necessary.

Professional Growth:
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings.
  • Stay informed about best practices in early childhood education and Head Start requirements.

Compliance and Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of children's progress, attendance, and other required records.
  • Ensure adherence to all Head Start Performance Standards and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist in program self-assessment and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credential is preferred.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in early childhood education, preferably within a Head Start program.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and low-income families.
  • Strong understanding of child development and early childhood education principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for educational and administrative tasks.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Capability to engage in activities that require physical movement and interaction with children.
