Job Title: Direct Support Professional

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team at Caregiver, Inc. Our mission is to enable individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead their unique lives with dignity, independence, and inclusion.

Job Summary:

The Direct Support Professional will provide direct support and assistance to individuals with disabilities in their daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively, work independently, and provide a safe and supportive environment for our clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate consumers in daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access.
  • Provide direct support and assistance to consumers in training activities as specified in ISPs and activity schedules.
  • Aid in mobility as needed for those using wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
  • Assist in bedroom maintenance and teach housekeeping skills and care of clothing.
  • Assist with meal service, teach dining skills, and promote social skills and personal dignity during meals.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to company policy.
  • Be assigned as a Primary Person (P2) for one or more consumers and ensure their wellbeing at all times.
  • Attend and successfully complete in-service training sessions as scheduled.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to fellow Direct Support Professionals.
  • Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports as directed by agency policy and procedure.
  • Assist consumers in transportation as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Individual Support Team and give input toward the consumer's ISP.
  • Monitor consumers' activities to ensure safety and health care practices are observed.
Qualifications:
  • A high school education or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Some previous experience in supporting/assisting those with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer, pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or the company.
