Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Plumbing Inspector I to join our team at the City of Laredo, TX. As a key member of our Building Development Services department, you will be responsible for conducting inspections of new and add-on commercial and residential construction to ensure compliance with applicable plumbing codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of water, sewer, or gas line construction to check progress and ensure compliance with city ordinances and plumbing codes.
  • Review and approve inspections for sprinkler systems, water meters, gas and water lines replacements, and septic tank installations.
  • Inspect gasoline tanks in new gas checks for gas lines leaks.
  • Check and review plans, specifications, and materials for conformance to existing plumbing codes.
  • Point out deficiencies to contractors and explain requirements for conformance.
  • Visit construction sites to make inspections for conformance to existing codes; post inspections and reset permits register; investigate complaints concerning violations of the code.
  • Explain and interpret plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least six (6) years of experience in plumbing or building construction trade.
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
  • State of Texas Journeyman Plumbing License is desirable.
  • International Code Council Plumbing Inspector Certification is desirable.
Working Conditions

This position requires occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. The employee will be required to work in various environments, including confined spaces, office settings, and outdoor locations.
