Job Overview

This role involves a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the upkeep of the City of Collinsville's agricultural property and equipment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, landscaping, horticulture, forestry, and maintenance of recreational equipment. Additionally, this position entails animal care for the livestock present on the property.

The City of Collinsville's agricultural site is designed to reflect a nostalgic farming atmosphere, featuring traditional farming equipment, rustic buildings, and live animals such as donkeys, cattle, chickens, and goats. The site encompasses over 30 acres of wildlife habitat, complete with walking trails and scenic views.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and prepare grounds, including mowing, weeding, tilling, and raking.
  • Perform manual labor tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions.
  • Ensure cleanliness in restrooms and park facilities, including litter collection and disposal.
  • Assist in the setup for special events and perform other duties as assigned to support the Parks and Recreation Department.

Qualifications

Applicants are encouraged to have at least 6 months of relevant experience in municipal or commercial grounds maintenance.

Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a collegiate program in Recreation Park Tourism Administration (RPTA), grounds maintenance, or a related field, or who are currently enrolled in such a program with at least 20 semester hours completed.

Requirements

  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public, especially children.
  • Demonstrated qualities of competence, independence, and reliability.
  • Physical ability to walk, run, stand, and perform various motor skills.
  • Capability to lift and carry weights between 30-70 pounds regularly.
  • Good hearing and vision abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility to work staggered shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to work in various outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to operate or learn to use various tools and equipment.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Consistent attendance is required.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $16.00.
